Temporary Permit in Kansas

Applicants for admission to the Bar in Kansas may seek temporary admission under Supreme Court Rule 718 during the pendency of their UBE exam results. See Rule 718.

Eligible Applicants include:

  • An applicant who has applied under Rule 716 to take the upcoming Kansas Bar examination or awaiting results of the examination and whose Character & Fitness has been approved is eligible to apply for a Temporary Permit in Kansas.
  • An applicant who has applied under Rule 717 who is awaiting results from a UBE examination in another UBE jurisdiction and whose Character & Fitness has been approved is eligible to apply for a Temporary Permit in Kansas.

All information and announcements are posted on the Kansas Attorney Admissions Office webpage at: https://admissions.kscourts.gov/home. Applicants are expected to regularly visit this webpage to review the announcements and information posted there. Applicants are also required to maintain a current email address and mailing address on their personal Supreme Court of Kansas Attorney Admissions Account and to regularly read all mail from this office, whether sent electronically or by postal service. Applicants should use an email address that can be accessed after graduation from law school. Applicants must ensure that emails from the Kansas Attorney Admissions Office are not filtered as spam.

Temporary Permit Deadline and Fees

Temporary Permit applications are due prior to applicant’s Bar examination results release.

The fee for a Temporary Permit is $100.

Eligibility Requirements for a Temporary Permit.

  • Must be an applicant for admission to the Kansas bar under Rule 716 or Rule 717(c).
  • Applicant achieved a minimum score of 80 on the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) and ensures that the National Conference of Bar Examiners or the testing jurisdiction provides the score to the Kansas Attorney Admissions Office.
  • Verification from a Supervising attorney who is a licensed Kansas attorney.
  • Character & Fitness has been approved.
  • Applicant meets all other eligibility requirements.

Eligibility Requirements for a Temporary Permit.

  • 716 or 717(c) application submitted and accepted.
